A country with a turbulent and troubled recent past, but one that has now emerged and should have a positive future. The Khymer rouge caused untold damage to this country with a highly idealist program of social engineering, and cultural sabotage. The country is a very different place today, and in the form of Angkor Wat has been blessed with one of the worlds greatest cultural treasures. The town of Siem Reap has a lot of tourism, but branch out to places like Battambang and Kampong Cham and you may well meet some of the friendliest people you’ve ever met. The Amok fish curry is also delicious, and something you’ll look forward to having again when you’ve left Cambodia.

Highlights

Sunrise at Angkor Wat - Carlsberg doesn’t do sunrises, but if they did it would probably be the one at Angkor Wat.

Beng Mealea- If you’re looking for a temple relatively unspoiled by the tourist hordes, check this one out.

Battambang - Battambang and the area around it is full of interest, and the people are very friendly.

The Apsara dancers - Living culture in Cambodia that survived Pol Pot, a very beautiful and elegant dance.
