The low country is a marvel of engineering, sitting as it does below sea level for the most part. The sea of course was tamed through a series of dams and canals that really shape the scenery here. Holland also has the reputation for being a more liberal country and this can be see with the number of coffee shops, though coffee isn’t the main item on the menu. Outside of Amsterdam cities like Lieden or Den Hague are well worth a visit, and Kinderdijk is really nice. Holland has also put some heavy weight cultural figures that you can learn about at some excellent museums, Van Gogh and Rembrandt are of course famous throughout the world.
