Welcome to the least populated country in the world, and welcome to the great outdoors. Once you get beyond the capital city of Ulaanbator getting around involves 4x4 cars or at least something a little robust. The lack of roads means it’s going to be a bumpy ride as well, but it’s worth it a million times over. Then there’s the night, so many stars can be seen and you really get an impression of what an impact light pollution has in more developed parts of the world. So it’s time to get away from it all, and get out to Mongolia.

Highlights

The Gobi desert - This vast area has a lot more too it than just sand, 5 days in the Gobi is a great trip.

Terelj national park - This park, which is close to Ulaanbator has some amazing scenery, and great life.

Erdene Zuu monastry - Only a few temples survived the communist scourge, it still is an amazing place to see.
